Installing New Interior Door Frame

If you would like to paint repair or alter the door frame in any way now is the perfect time to do so.

Attach 6 door installation brackets to the outside of the door jamb the wood frame to which the door comes pre attached. To install a door jamb start by measuring the door frame and cutting the wood to size. If your frame is in good shape a slab also called a blank door image to the right is fine. Attach the door installation brackets.

Place a bracket behind each of the three hinges. If you re installing a pre hung door make sure you get the correct. If your doorframe is damaged you need a pre hung door which includes the frame and door. Next add glue to the end of 1 of your longer pieces of wood and attach a shorter piece to it.

Any changes to the door frame should be made before installing the new door. Measure your door carefully and cut the opening to fit using a reciprocating saw. Installing the door frame that i made from the parts in the previous video. Determine the size of the door opening.

The size of the door opening will vary depending on the size of the door you plan to install. Leave the retaining brackets in place that hold the door closed while you re working on it. After the frame is set i usually like to hang the door to check the fit and twea. Then use a nail gun to secure the 2 pieces together before attaching the other side of the jamb in the same way. Attach the remaining three brackets on the the other side of the jamb. The first step you need to accomplish before you learn how to install an exterior door is that you must prepare the rough opening of the door if necessary and remove the new door and frame from their packaging.
